The association, originally named “Arbeitskreis Deutsche England-Forschung” (ADEF), was initiated by Gustav Schmidt, Professor of Political Science at Bochum University, and his colleagues in 1981. In 2017, the association was renamed to “Arbeitskreis Großbritannien-Forschung” (AGF).
